The author traces the development of Mapplethorpe's use of instant photography over a period of five years, from 1970 to 1975, when the artist worked mainly in this medium. The images include self-portraits; figure studies; still lifes; portraits of lovers and friends such as Patti Smith, Sam Wagstaff, and Marianne Faithful; and observations of everyday objects. Marked by a spontaneity and creative curiosity, these fragile images offer an illuminating contrast to the glossy perfection of the work for which Mapplethorpe is best known, allowing us a more personal glimpse of his artistry.

You can't go wrong with a Mapplethorpe on your shelf, this is my 3rd book on him and his collections are just so interesting to me. I tried to emulate him in undergrad with a few projects my professor handed to me. In hindsight, I think my professor got me into his work because she saw me struggle with my sexual identity AND she wanted me to get laid, finally.

Excellent Introductory Text

This text has provided me with an excellent grounding in the field of ecofeminism. The selection of essays included provide a nice range of the various ways ecofeminism is represented in the disciplines and used politically in society. The essays themselves are very clearly written and I found their bibliographies especially helpful in leading me to other more specific sources on the particular foci within this umbrella topic.

In particular, I really valued the inclusion of the following selections: Ecofeminism through an Anticolonial Framework (interesting critique of general feminism and a nice example of a politically motivated piece); Ecofeminist Literary Criticism (great bibliography and linkage to other theoretical pieces); and Androcentrism and Anthrpocentrism.

I would definitely recommend this text to anyone wanting an introductory overview of ecofeminism.

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in ecofeminist theory. It contains a collection of essays by various authors on ecological problems and how those problems are linked to the oppression of minorities.It contains empirical data to back claims and provides a clear convincing argument for the movement.

About the Author
Kenneth A Kim is an associate professor of finance at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, the Academic Director of its Singapore EMBA Program, and the former Chair of its MBA and PhD Programs. In 2008, Dr Kim received the Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2008, which is the most prestigious teaching award in the state of New York consisting of 64 public colleges and universities. Dr Kim has previously held a variety of academic appointments at 16 different universities around the world, including the University of Tokyo, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Renmin University of China, Georgetown University, and the University of Michigan. Dr Kim consults for various businesses and organizations including money managers, financial institutions, stock exchanges, governments, and other regulatory bodies in the areas of international finance, Asian financial markets, and financial markets regulation. During 1998 and 1999, he worked as a senior financial economist at the US Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC, where he worked on a wide variety of corporate finance and governance issues. Dr Kim's primary research interests include corporate finance, corporate governance, behavioral finance, and Asian financial markets. His research has been highlighted in the financial press including The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, NewsWeek and BusinessWeek. He has articles published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Business, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Financial Research, among other leading academic journals. Author of two textbooks, Corporate Governance and Global Corporate Finance, Dr Kim received his PhD in Finance from the University of Rhode Island, his MBA from the University of Detroit Mercy, and his BA in Economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Suk H Kim, a professor of international finance, is the discipline coordinator of finance and international business at the University of Detroit Mercy. Professor Kim has authored or coauthored about 20 books and 50 peer-reviewed academic journal articles. According to an article by Allen Morrison and Andrew Ipken (The Journal of International Business Studies, First Quarter, 1991), Professor Kim was among the top 25 international business researchers of the 1980s. His articles have appeared in the Journal of International Business Studies, The Columbia Journal of World Business (now the Journal of World Business), Management Accounting (now Strategic Finance), The Engineering Economist, and several others. He was the Fulbright scholar at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, in 1992. Professor Kim was the founder-editor of two prestigious academic journals: Multinational Business Review (MBR: 1992 2002) and North Korean Review (NKR: 2005 2013). The editorial office of MBR is now housed at St. Louis University and is published by Emerald in the United Kingdom. The editorial office of NKR is now housed at Yonsei University in Korea and is published by McFarland in the United States. Professor Kim has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and research. He received his PhD in Finance from St. Louis University, his MBA from Pepperdine University, his MA in Economics from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and his BA in Economics from Soongsil University in Seoul, South Korea.

About the Author

Harjit Singh earned his MBA from University of Texas and his master’s degree in Computer Engineering from California State University, Sacramento. He is a Certified Scrum Master, Lean Six Sigma professional, and holds PMP (Project Management Professional) credentials. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the private and public sector as an engineer, project manager, and educator. Currently, he is working as a data processing manager III at the State of California. In addition, he is also a visiting professor at Keller Graduate School of Management, DeVry University where he teaches project management and business management courses. Prior to this, he worked at Hewlett-Packard Company for 15 years as a systems software engineer and technical project manager. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) where he served in the capacity of CIO and vice president of relations and marketing.

I have a Business Management degree and concentrated in strategic management. I wish I had this book as a reference book while I was in college. Being involved in numerous projects, I have seen too many projects went sour due to inappropriate human resource management on the projects. This book is simply a guidance to successful projects. It clearly demonstrates the essential elements for any size of project and teaches you how to manage and distribute the manpower for your project. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is running his/her own business, leading a project, or a student working on a business degree.

Great little book with a very timely and ageless message

This is a great little book with lots of reenforcement for positive thinkers. Many of the articles are real-life examples that demonstrate the importance and value of maintaining a positive attitude. The Trouble Magnet Strikes Again!

I was ecstatic to discover this gem waiting for me on my Kindle this morning. Anything authored by Mary Calmes is to be anticipated, savored and cherished; that this is a Jory & Sam installment is just frosting.

In the run-up to their remarriage (this time legal in their home country, state and city), Jory's penchant for trouble finding him comes into its glory. But a few bruises and contracted hit aren't about to put a damper on the nuptials.

Handled with humor and love, Mary once again pulls us into the lives and love of Jory Harcourt and Sam Kage and family and friends. And what a place that is! Mary Calmes creations are like perfect little gems in a growing treasure. I find myself going back time after time to re-read and savor each offering - sometimes it's just to savor favorite passages and other times discovering a missed detail that only enriches the adventure.

Brava! Brava! Bravissimo! Enc---The only sadness comes in that this feels like the FINAL installment in the "Adventures and Love and Lives of Jory & Sam". *sniffle* Please say it ain't so! Encore! Encore! Encore!

Okay, I love Jory and Sam. I re-read the books all the time and never get bored. I think that Mary had a great shot to make this book longer and deeper than it was. I felt she talked about Arron and Duncan alot. Not enough of Dane and the rest of Sam's family. I love the kids and she could have gotten deeper with them as well. I felt that it was rushed and there was nothing to the wedding. I think that Sam and Jory could have had a few more in depth sex scenes, but there was only one quickie. I think that Mary could go back and add to this story because I love these guys and there was definately room for more Jory drama!

I'm so in love with Sam and Jory, it's probably unhealthy how many times I've read their handful of books. I love their banter, Sams rage, and Jory's smart mouth and quick wit, that he's passing to his children lol.
This book was of course amazing, I just wish it was longer, I feel like these two should have a daily book or I could wish them to real life, so they could have a reality show or something, where I could watch them all the time.... I'd totally be that creepy, i'd have to make sure it was on HBO or something though cuz the sex between these two is even hotter.
Anyway, it was awesome to see Duncan, Aaron, Dane and Aja, Regina, and even Miro and Ian were thrown in and looking so cute. I loved that too! It makes me want to go back and read the whole series again, and it'll take me all week and I won't get anything done because once I start I won't wanna stop again!
Seriously.... did I mention how unhealthy this obsession was that I had with these two? I mean, clearly you can see it!
Overall, like always, this was a 5 star read for me, I really hope there will be more because.... sigh..... I'll need another Sam and Jory fix soon.
P.s. I'm not even mad I had to pay 99 cents for this when it's free elsewhere... it's THAT worth it!
