Jakob Nielsen, Ph.D. is principal of Nielsen Norman Group. He is the founder of the discount usability engineering movement, which emphasizes fast and efficient methods for improving the quality of user interfaces.
Nielsen, noted as "the world's leading expert on Web usability" by U.S. News and World Report; and "the next best thing to a true time machine" by USA Today, is the author of the best-selling book "Designing Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity," which has sold more than a quarter of a million copies in 22 languages. His other books include "Usability Engineering," "Usability Inspection Methods," "Multimedia and Hypertext: The Internet and Beyond," "International User Interfaces," "Homepage Usability: 50 Websites Deconstructed," "Prioritizing Web Usability," and "Eyetracking Web Usability."
Nielsen s Alertbox column on Web usability has been published on the Internet since 1995 at www.useit.com and currently has about 200,000 readers.

UX Love - Old but still really relevant information

So, there is some stuff in this book that's dated. But, it's still great to see the UX testing process in action, and the assessments made from the tests. The assessments are in large part still very relevant. If you're looking for the most up to date version of the NN Group E-Commerce UX Report, it will run you something like $500. No kidding. I haven't seen that version of the report so I can't say if it's very different, but I do know from looking that the chapter descriptions on the NN Group website that it includes testing for more modern features and concerns, like Mobile etc. If that's what you're looking for, this is not the book for you.
However, if you want a really really inexpensive peak into the methods of the NN Group and what their findings for the state of E-Commerce were in 2001, this is a really neat read.

Ok for people starting out in ecommerce

This book is an old version - 2000 or 2001 version.
It has a lot of research data, which is good. However since the research dates back to early 2000s, some of it is common knowledge.
Overall the book is good for people who are starting out in ecommerce. Helps in making users aware of different aspects of e commerce.
